Every year, millions of animals are still waiting to be noticed. Today, we’re doing something about it — The Axee Bear Company is officially open. It’s a small shop with a big commitment: rescue-inspired apparel and gifts, built to fund real animal welfare work, one order at a time.
Named for one dog
This all started with Axel — nicknamed Axee-Bear — a lab mix we adopted in 2013. He was found with his siblings and pulled by a rescue that placed him in a foster home, where our family met him and knew right away he belonged with us. For the next decade, Axel taught us what it means to give a shelter animal a second chance.
When we lost him, we didn’t want his story to end there. The Axee Bear Company exists to carry his name forward into something bigger — rescue, advocacy, and a little bit of hope for every animal still waiting for someone to notice them. If you want the fuller version, read our full story.
What we’re building
The Axee Bear Company is a rescue-inspired shop with a simple commitment: 10% of every order’s net profit is donated monthly, split between A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter and Best Friends Animal Society. We proudly support both organizations through this giving commitment — not because we’re formally partnered or endorsed by either one, but because their work is exactly why The Axee Bear Company exists in the first place.
Every purchase funds real rescue work — not as an afterthought, but as the whole point. As the shop grows, we’ll publish a monthly Donation Transparency Post showing exactly how much was donated and where it went, so the giving is never just a claim on a product tag.
More than a shop
Most of what you’ll find here isn’t for sale. The Axee Bear Company is built around an 80/20 approach: the majority of this site is educational and advocacy content, with the shop making up a smaller piece of the picture. That means regular coverage of the issues that don’t always make the news — puppy mills and ethical breeding, shelter overcrowding, equine welfare and wild horse roundups, and practical guidance on what responsible adoption and fostering actually look like once you bring an animal home.
Each month, we’ll also use part of this space for a Rescue Spotlight — a shelter, a volunteer, or a community story, featured with no cost and no catch. It’s a chance to put someone else’s work at the center for once.
A quick note on AI
We’re not professional designers or photographers, so some of the illustrations and creative assets on this site — things like graphics, mockups, and visual polish — are produced through an AI-assisted creative process, followed by manual editing and composition. We’re upfront about that because we think you deserve to know.
What isn’t AI-generated: the animals, the rescues, and the people. Every adoptable pet, Rescue Spotlight feature, and community story you’ll find here will be real, sourced directly, and credited to the actual organization or person behind it.
